Rampur Kalan was officially gazetted as a revenue village under Roorkee tehsil during the British administration. The village was named after the prominent Rampur family that settled here in the late 18th century.
First Primary School Founded
Pt. Shiv Datt Sharma established the first primary school in a rented room in his home. Initial enrollment was 18 boys. The school was later taken over by the government in 1948.
Participation in Quit India Movement
Several villagers joined the Quit India Movement. Shri Mange Ram Garg and two others marched to Roorkee to participate in protests and were subsequently arrested by British authorities.
Eastern Ganga Canal Irrigation
The extension of the Eastern Ganga Canal irrigation network reached Rampur Kalan, transforming dry land farming to irrigated agriculture. Wheat and sugarcane cultivation expanded significantly, doubling household incomes within a decade.
Village Electrification
Rampur Kalan received electrical connections under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana pilot scheme. The first streetlight was switched on by Gram Pradhan Shri Mohan Lal on the occasion of Republic Day.
Panchayat Bhawan and Computer Centre
A new Panchayat Bhawan with a Common Service Centre was inaugurated, bringing digital services including Aadhaar enrollment, land record access, and e-governance to the village for the first time.

I need to visit relatives there. Which station should I get off at and how far is the village from it?
The nearest railway station is Roorkee (RK), about 14 km from Rampur Kalan. From Roorkee you can take a shared auto or jeep towards Khanpur, and ask to be dropped at the Rampur Kalan turn. The village is about 3 km off the main road.
There is also a bus service from Roorkee bus stand (near railway station) to Manglaur that passes through the main road near the village. Buses run every 45 minutes.
Was there any freedom fighter from this village?
Yes β Shri Mange Ram Garg participated in the Quit India Movement in 1942. He was arrested and jailed in Dehradun for 6 months. His name is also recorded in the district freedom fighters register maintained by the Haridwar Collectorate.

The main crops are wheat and sugarcane (rabi season), and paddy, maize, and vegetables (kharif season). A significant portion of farming households also cultivate lychee and mango orchards. The Eastern Ganga Canal provides irrigation from October through May.
